Childrens’ Day Special: A Letter To My Son

My happy, wild & free son

To My Dearest Viswamithran,

Amma & Appa love you so so so much! You may not understand what is happening today as you are being showered with cute little presents from your school teachers and family members. Today, we celebrate you, your sweet innocence, your inquisitive nature, your playfulness, your hunger for knowledge as you chatter away, the little tantrums that you throw when things don’t go your way, the very essence of your being.

Childhood days are the most precious and fun times of one’s life. They say, time flies when you are having fun. Well, before you know it, you’ll be all grown up into a young adult and fighting the battles that life throws at you.

Laugh out loud and let your imagination go wild. Play like there is no tomorrow. Run like the wind and be free. Do what your heart desires.

Getting older is inevitable, but growing up is a choice. Embrace your inner child, no matter what age you are.

Peter Pan

Cherish your childhood memories and never forget to embrace your inner child even after you are all grown up. Amma & Appa will always be there for you, creating happy memories for you to treasure and remember.

Lots of hugs & kisses from,

Amma & Appa

Adults are only kids grown up, anyway.

Changi Fire Station Open House Tour

Did you know that you can visit our local fire stations to learn what it takes to become a fire fighter, understand the daily operations of a Fire Station and learn more their equipment?

I accompanied my son for his school trip to Changi Fire Station on a Saturday morning and was pretty impressed myself, as this was my first time visiting a Fire Station.

The famous firepoles which are rarely used today

The full-time fire fighters on duty explained about the different types of vehicles (eg: Red Rhino) and the equipment used in times of an emergency. On average, they receive 2 – 5 emergency calls per day at this Fire Station and they have to beat the traffic to reach their destination within 8 minutes. That’s super fast!

Massively huge fire engine with a CPL (Combined Platform-Ladder) commonly used by firefighters to conduct external firefighting and rescue operations involving high-rise building

And in the midst of our tour, the siren sounded and some of the firefighters rushed off to attend to the call of duty. Hats off to our brave firefighters!

Our tour continued with an equipment demonstration followed by photo taking opportunities on the Red Rhino, the Red Scorpion (three-wheeler fire bike) and fire engines. Children will enjoy wearing the fire fighter helmet props and posing for pictures.

All SCDF’s fire stations, except those listed below, offer open house on every Saturday from 9am to 11am. The tour of the fire station generally takes about an hour.

  • Banyan Fire Station
  • Bishan Fire Station
  • Brani Marine Fire Station
  • Jurong Island Fire Station
  • Sentosa Fire Station
  • Tuas View Fire Station
  • West Coast Marine Fire Station

The best part is…it’s free admission for this open house. So, what are you waiting for? Head down to the Fire Station on a Saturday morning for an enjoyable time with your family.

Book Reviews

Book Review: Huff & Puff by Claudia Rueda

Recently my son was introduced to this book at his childcare – Huff & Puff by Claudia Rueda. I would say, it’s an interesting take on the famous ‘Three Little Pigs’ story which we have all read or heard when we were younger.

The story goes like this: Each of the three little pigs attempt to build a house made from different materials and the wolf comes along and blows all their houses down, right? Well, an unexpected twist awaits which will put a smile on your face.

The perfect book for little kids with simple one-liners and big pictures, Huff & Puff is a delight to read. Plus, kids will enjoy participating (huffing & puffing) during the reading process.

You can easily borrow this book from public libraries or purchase it online from Book Depository. Enjoy reading! And do share with me what you think of this story, in the comments section below.

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.
